Memory And Muchness-Alice Series
Originally this got posted as follows: "For anyone thats interested, here is a selection of my Alice series to date-various digital pieces. If you have seen these before in other Alice communities I doubt there will be anything much new to you-but as I have not put any up here before, and [info]littlebird asked me to, I am posting some here as well." Very confusing-since I have of course posted all but one of these here before (see if you can spot which one before its mentioned in the replies). This post was meant for the wonderful [info]storybookalice community but somewhere along the line ended up here. As I got lots of replies from all sorts of very nice people I thought it best to preserve my mistake in its entirety...

Memory

These are currently being exhibited in my home town (which being a bit of an art 'black hole' means hardly anyone will see them and I shall be most suprised if any actually sell). You can also see them in my journal and on my website (where there is a lot of information about the series and my techniques). Hope you like them.

Thanks for sharing them with us this morning, I needed a bit of magic in my day.

Then my rather listless (and overly hot) summer day has proved worthwhile-thank you. I hope some magic stays with you for whenever you need it :)

That girl in the first photo catches my eye, the one in the picture frame. She seems to stick out so much that I almost thought she was outside a window than inside a picture. Maybe it's that she's looking at her that makes her less of a dead picture.

Yes-completely-she is the most real person there-I wanted it to feel as if the photgraph had come to life. Its based on a classic shot of the real Alice, only I turned her face round to look at the other Alices in the picture.

they are wonderful, your collage style is uniquely yours, and the scenes are convincing, but most of all surreal and ephemeral like dreams.

they should be where there is high visibility and lotsa traffic!

Thank you :) I do try to make dreams seem real, and reality seem a dream. Often when they do end up in very high traffic enviroments they tend to get overlooked, or not rated much-I suspect because they are a little too subtle and fly under the radar when put next to punchy hi-gloss eye candy. Instead I have to creep them into peoples attention like a disease or a lingering sense of deja-vu and a half forgotten dream.

This is such a serendipity as I was only thinking of your Alice series the other day. I'm wondering how much it would be to buy image no. 3 (the Alice and the Cheshire cat moon) as a print, and if it's possible to do so. The postage would be to Australia. *g*

You know that I'd buy them all but I have a serious lack of money. :DDD

Im open to offers ;)
I doubt postage would be all that much for something light-now if you wanted my 'Alice At the Window' in her gilt frame-that would cost a fortune to post (it weighs a ton).

I have never seen the second one before, is it a new one?
I think you forgot to change the "post to" tab though, as this is in your own journal :) (I keep doing that with mine, and then I have to delete it and post it all other again!)

Ahh that is why all the photos are still in his journal...it happened to me...since you are talking about posting, can anyone show me how to do the cut and place the words I need as a message instead of "read more" ?

Not so much forgot to change the post to tab-I set it correctly in semagic and actually triple checked the blasted thing-and it still posted here for some reason *sigh* It must have sneaked back to my own journal while I wasnt looking. I shall, however, correct that as much as I can by trying again to put this post in its rightful home.
I have learnt that a lot of people can benefit from older stuff comming back up to the top of my posts though, which is interesting. The mistake is worth it if just one person gets a bit of magic to their day from it. And I love hearing peoples thoughts and their own visions of things.
The second one is actual rather old-but for some reason never got posted here-only on my website. So-another bonus from my mis-posting is that a lot more people will get to see it. I have mixed feelings about that image though-ever since Saturday when someone pointed out that Alice looks pregnant in it (not my intention at all). Im still not sure if its acidental brillance or a step too far in inadvertant bad taste...

I keep on looking at the solitary lady looking into the frozen pond...what part of Alice does she represent...?
I am sure she is not the Queen?
May be I don't remember the story all that well
To me she says a lot...
she seems to have some remembering to do...

lol-this one always stumps people-even with the title 'Ediths Dream'. Its the real Alice's sister Edith (yes, she is in the books). She died quite young, and this is a picture about death and immortality-she, unlike Alice, has never entered wonderland and is fated to remain obscure and mundane while her sister lives on forever a child in wonderland for millions. In the pool Alice is drowning, and a page from the 'pool of tears' chapter floats on the water alongside one of Ediths dolls. In Ediths dream she wonders-did she fall or did I push her? None of thats in the story-its me pondering and being obscure.
At least, that what was going through my mind at the time. Its the end piece to the series, which starts with the one by the river bank with Lewis Carroll and then moves into the set with the undergrowth borders. Alice at the window and Memory and Muchness are then 'keys' of sorts that stand at each end of the series as well.

Through Dave? I see you have modelled for him :)
Thanks for the comment about Alice-its not easy putting out 'alternative' visions of the characters because people have such strong internal visions of them, so its always good to hear when people think they still relate to the stories.
Im always trying to blur lines betwen the xpected and the different-between photograph and painting, artist and viewer, my inner vision and the vision of others.

Hi. Im wondering if you have prints available for these, and if so how much would they be? :)

I have prints for most of them in a limited edition run-the classy version I have been selling at art fairs, so they are a bit expensive (kind of a collectors edition, a run of 20 of each max, signed on water colour paper) in two sizes: http://www.hollinghurst.org.uk/Prints.htm
I can also do prints to order though-more like poster prints for a lot less and also special prices for several at a time. I can do any of my work like this, not just the Alice series. Either way the best thing to do is probably drop me an e-mail at peter@hollinghurst.org.uk and let me know what you are interested in and what your budget is!
